Based on the Resurrection Day sequence, “Victimae paschále laudes,” this new work combines the sweet anticipation of a risen Christ with a joyful acknowledgement of His return after death and burial.  The plainsong on which this is based is attributed to Notker Balbulus the Stammerer of the 11th century.

This piece would work well either in its entirety or separated with the Meditation being an opening voluntary and the Acclamation being the closing voluntary or during the closing procession on Easter Sunday.

While it has a quality of “depth” as a colleague told me, it is not terribly challening to learn for the average organist.  Just be willing to let the left hand help with the right hand in the Acclamation.  Enjoy.
