The Song of the Redeemed

Canticle 19:  Magna et mirabilia

by Kent Arthur Savage

The name of this canticle, found in The Book of Common Prayer 1979, caught my eye and stirred a different mix of sounds from my head and heart.  Understanding and working with text like this from Revelation 15 can be a challenge to put to music, the process of which can be very rewarding for the composer.

I cannot really claim that this musical adaptation of The Song of the Redeemed is like any particular style of music.  It layers the traditional four voices of the choir, pairs male voices together and female voices together, and ends with a homophonic set of Amen statements - so be it!
