Toccata, Fugue and Sortie on "Veni Creator Spiritus"
The arrival of the Holy Spirit from heaven is one of the most important event after the Resurrection second only to the Ascension of Christ into Heaven. The Holy Spirit’s arrival brings us God’s Essence to dwell among us and to refine us, as with fire, to become who He wishes us to be. This new organ work opens worship by proverbially rousing us from our human slumber into vessels capable of receiving His Spirit, inclining our hearts to seek the Spirit and, finally, to be refined by his Fire into the finest example of His creation.
The power of this work is best experienced when allowing at least a 15 second period of silence after it ends. It could also be successfully used as a concluding voluntary in environments where worshippers remain present until the organ is silenced for the day.
